The conference will be held at the Campus of the University of Vienna, located in the city centre, which originally was the Old General Hospital founded in the 18th century. It has become a national monument and has recently been renovated and then given to Vienna University.
The Campus of the University of Vienna was developed after the City of Vienna donated the buildings of the former General Hospital to the university in 1988. After its revitalisation and adaptation with support from the Federal Minstry of Science and Transport and from the City of Vienna, the Campus now houses departments of the Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies and the Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies, university facilities and museums as well as businesses, shops and catering enterprises.
The economic use of the buildings in court 1 also symbolises the connection of science with concrete everyday life. Thus the shops, restaurants and beer gardens as well as the varied events taking place at the campus proove to be a sincere invitation to everybody to enjoy the Campus of the University of Vienna in all its variety.
The Campus of the Unviersity of Vienna was officially opened on October 16th, 1998.
