Karlsruhe Childrens' University

(Karlsruher Kinder-Uni)

Aims and goals:

- to arouse the children's interest in natural science and technology at an early stage: The Children's University promotes curiosity, encourages asking questions and looking for answers, and thus creates incentives for them to try things out for themselves. - to show children that researchers work close to practical issues, aiming to solve the problems of our society - to reduce barriers and reserves and to create a broader acceptance of the university, which is open for everybody, irrespective of age, educational status and social background. - to extend the circle of potential future students: It shows many children that studying at the university is an option in their career planning. - to promote equal opportunities: By specifically targeting girls and often employing female lecturers who serve as role models, it encourages female pupils to get more involved in technology and natural sciences. - to promote cross-border exchange with the German-French lecture - by integrating the Hector Seminar: to allow gifted pupils to communicate lessons learned to younger children
